Search and Rescue Dog Trainer Interview with Jim Miller

Search and Rescue Dog Trainer Interview with Jim Miller

August 12, 2020

Search and Rescue Dog Training has always been of interest to me.  It's also been kind of mysterious to me and others.

How are these dogs trained?  How do they know what to do?  What does the first 24 hours of training look like?  How do you get a foundation?

Jim Miller, Search and Rescue GURU breaks down the mechanics of SAR dog training.

Jim is in upstate New York and can be reached at (518) 847 7834.

As a Service Dog Trainer, I love talking to trainers from other disciplines.  I have also met service dog trainers that have no idea what real search and rescue (SAR) dogs have to go through.

These trainers are well intentioned and have good results but let's not call them search and rescue dogs.

1.  Most service dog organizations are not offering certified Search and Rescue Dogs.

2.  Most service dogs that perform "SAR" do not have 600 hours of training sessions.

3.  Your average service dog can not pass the assessment below.

This podcast will be of great interest to parents of children with autism.  Many of these children have elopement issues.

Search and Rescue dogs can be helpful in finding children, Alzheimers patients, criminals and even other dogs!

It's truly a fascinating topic even if you don't have a dog.  A dog's sense of smell is amazing thing!  To learn more about a dog's sense of smell, I highly recommend the work of Alexandria Horowitz.  Her best Seller "Inside of a dog" made a tremendous impact on me as a dog trainer.

Dog Weight Pulling Sports interview with Legendary IWPA Judge Debbie Lee from the International Weight Pulling Organization

Dog Weight Pulling Sports interview with Legendary IWPA Judge Debbie Lee from the International Weight Pulling Organization

July 26, 2020

Most people acquire dogs for companionship purposes.  Dogs are looking for more than a companion.  They are looking for a guide, a coach & a companion.

What matters to me is the fulfillment of a dog.  To me, this is more important than a dog being happy.  Joy is important for a dog but so is a sense of achievement.

In some ways, this article describes my approach with dogs.

Dog Weight Pulling is my favorite dog sport.  I love lure coursing, agility, barn hunt etc... However, weight pulling is my favorite dog activity.

Dog love to work.  Dogs love to have a job.  And Dogs Love To Pull!

At least, most dogs love to pull.  Check out my website.  DogWizardry.com

The Power of Words with guest Rose Marie Raccioppi

The Power of Words with guest Rose Marie Raccioppi

July 7, 2020
Rose Marie Raccioppi is hands down one of my favorite guests.  Her information can't be heard anywhere else.  In this episode, we'll hear about the power of words.

There is no "woo" here.  This is the real deal.  Words have vibrations that can be measured.  It's also something that you can experience.   Below is a poem by Lord Byron followed by a poem by Rose Marie Raccioppi.  Rose Marie's contact information can be found at the bottom of this description.

"Words are things, and a small drop of ink
falling like dew upon a thought
produces that which makes
thousands, perhaps millions, think."

Lord Byron, 1788-1824

Words, those markers of thought, sounding within us, hanker for expression. Words, those marks upon paper, our own or that of another find their meaning within us. A poem, its meter, its rhythm, its rhyme, its structure, its pulse, calls for our attentive consideration. Within the words, the line, the totality of a poem, we to find meaning, inspiration, an accord, a resolve and yes, another question.

WORDS words

words for prayer words for play
for the faith and frolic of our day
for the politician's power quest
words chosen thought to be best
words that conjure thoughts of freedom, the held ideal
words to affirm a continued and favored appeal
words of the lovers passionate and sweet
to assure affectionate embraces when they do meet
words to praise and hold gratitude true
gems and jewels when bestowed upon you
words of inspiration holding to nature's grace
to bring us to another time another place
words of faith, vision and quest
within each held life's behest
the poet's game to choose words well
to touch those chambers where heart and soul dwell.
